I currently have two cars for my personal use - the:
- 2017 Audi A3 Sportback Quattro 184PS TFSI
- 2015 Lotus Exige S3
- and I'm starting to feel like the time is coming where I need to reduce my car count. 2 cars is of course: 2 sets of insurance, 2 sets of MOT and servicing, 2 sets of road tax, 2 lots of car care time, etcetera. Whilst I can afford 2 cars, there are other things in life I'd like to spend money on, or simply save more for the future. I don't like paying 2 lots of everything.
Strangely I am feeling this now quite strongly. Perhaps it is fears for the UK economy / Labour's tax grab and I want to tighten my belt.
My idea currently is this:
- Exchange the 2015 Lotus Exige S3 for a 2018 BMW M2 Competition.
- Sell the 2017 Audi A3.
There were a couple of things I was waiting on before thinking about selling/exchange cars. Specifically, the Audi is currently waiting for a SatNav card. Really, nothing holding me back though, I could cancel the SatNav card.
I would expect to have to pay a little exchanging the 2015 Lotus Exige for a 2018 BMW M2. But with a little cash back for the 2017 Audi A3, I should be quids in. And long term, having only to pay for 1 lot of everything, will be a big bonus.
Also, to be honest, I simply don't do that much driving to benefit from having two cars. They both sit outside my house, often for weeks on end doing nothing, which is a little sad. I'm not even sure I'm bothered about performance driving (like track days) any more, I'm no performance driver. I have doubts that I even like track days that much (certainly not enough to justify the expense).
Honestly, track days do little for me. Driving around in circles, constantly having to watch your mirrors because the faster drivers are always closing in on you (I'm not a fast driver), the expense, the wear and tear on your lovely car. I'm very lucky to have experienced what I've experienced, but maybe I'm realizing something about myself I didn't know before (like I'm a boring c^nt) and other things in life are more important to me. Track days are starting to feel like a waste of time and money.
I do enjoy driving though, so a nice daily driver is a very desirable thing.
Should I do it!?
