I’ve put a deposit on what will be my car 26 (assuming I can get the finance together). This is a 2002 Porsche Boxster 3.2 S in Yellow for £9999. It will be the oldest car I’ve purchased since my 2005 purchase of a 2002 Ford Focus. And possibly the cheapest car I’ve purchased since that 2005 purchase (excepting the Mazda MX-5 Z-Sport.)
Q: Why?
A: Well I was missing a sportscar; and missing a manual;
and missing a convertible; and missing a yellow car.
In hindsight, I look back on the May 2019 combination of my ‘Audi S3’ 3-door in Solar Orange, and ‘Lotus Exige V6 S Roadster’ in Yellow as being my best ever 2 car combination. The Audi S3 was a great daily. The Exige V6 S Roadster was a great sportscar. And a great combination of colours!
With yet more hindsight, I see it was a big mistake having expensive sportscars. What can you really do with a sportscar other than take it on trackdays (yes, you could got for a weekend drive/road trip, but you can’t fully enjoy a sportscar on public roads)? And isn’t it a bit stupid to have as your trackday car, a car that’s relatively very expensive to you? Much better to have your trackday car as something relatively inexpensive!
Potentially, Dec 2020’s combination of ‘Audi RS3 Sportback’ and ‘Porsche Boxster S’ will be my best car combination ever. The Audi RS3 is an exceptional daily car. The 2002 Porsche Boxster S ticks all the sportscar boxes, and isn’t so ridiculously expensive that you’re afraid of using it. And blue and yellow is perhaps an even better combination of colours! (Orange is a tad bright for a Professional person’s daily.)
