Coming from a Lotus Exige S3 with the supercharged V6,
with its ballistic performance, I have been thinking about a little
modification to give the 718 Cayman S just a bit extra. Performance wise, the
718 Cayman S is already very capable.
Performance Stats
All the stats below
are for 6-speed manual transmissions:
The Exige S3 has a 3456cc supercharged V6 developing 345 bhp at 7’000rpm, 400 N-m torque at 4’500 rpm, a weight of just over 1100kg, 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, and 172 mph top speed.
The Porsche 718 Cayman S has a 2.5 litre turbocharged flat
4 developing 345 bhp
at 6’500rpm, 420 N-m
torque at 1900-4500rpm, a weight of 1355kg, 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, and 177 mph top speed.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 has a 4.0 litre normally
aspirated flat 6 developing 414
bhp at 7’500rpm, 420
N-m torque at 5000-7000rpm, a weight of 1451kg, 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, and 189 mph top speed.
Modifications
for my 718 Cayman S
I’d been using a ChipExpress plugin chip box with my Audi
TDIs and I was very pleased with this. So originally I was looking for a plugin
chip box for the Cayman. Then through the usual meanderings of discovering
things on the internet I came across a local (25 miles distant) car tuning
company called DynoTechRS
They do a Stage 1 ECU tune, and a Stage 2 ECU tune with
exhaust. The exhaust mentioned was Fabspeed’s Supercup Turboback Exhaust
System.
Stage 1: 420 bhp and 530
N-m
Stage 2: 450 bhp and 560
N-m
The Stage 2 ECU tune with exhaust is very tempting. The
718 Cayman S as standard has the same torque as the GT4, with the Stage 2 tune,
my 718 Cayman S would have more bhp and torque than the GT4, and be lighter
too, and hp per tonne better than the Exige!
Very tempting. I’ve not pulled the trigger yet. Watch
this space!
