The Audi A3 is Back! And what next!?

The infamous Audi A3 is back!

Actually, I had it back last month but just haven't updated this blog.

After 4 months of waiting for a secondhand gearbox to materialize (alas, no one is crashing these cars - at least not to the extent secondhand gearboxes are becoming available), I instructed the repair garage to purchase a brand new gearbox. The brand new gearbox cost £8.5k. With labour, a service, and other bits that needed doing (like brakes) the total bill came to around £13.5k. Add that to the £1.5k to fix the water issue and it's nearly £15k on repairs 😲

Still, it's good to have the car back. And I can't see myself selling it anytime soon. I like the spec, nothing wrong with the car when it's in working order.

There's a few other things I'd like to do - wheel refurbs & new tyres - but I'm in no rush.

The question now is what I do with the Audi TTS!? Keep it!? Sell it for cash!? Part-exchange it for something else!?

Often when I look on Auto Trader, the cars I like go in a flash (then again I'm never in a rush, perhaps I'm too laid back.) There is this car:

2006 (56) Porsche Cayman 3.4 987 S with sports exhaust and 87'000 miles. The sports exhaust is part of the attraction. My 986 Boxster sounded so good, probably my favorite sounding car, if this sounds better 😁. I like the 987 generation of Cayman, probably my favorite. A slightly later Gen 2 would be an advantage (reliability) but a well maintained Gen 1 should be fine. I'd probably never get a 987 R as just too expensive. And anything less than a 3.4 engine, and I'd be wishing I had the 3.4. So, if I did get a Cayman, Cayman 3.4 987 S is what I'd go for.

I wonder if that has sold already. Shall I find out!? 😆

** Update 03.07.2023 ** Well, it's not sold, but the car trader sounds very busy, and it's off to a Porsche specialist on Wednesday (a good thing) so finding a good time to see it might be tricky. Maybe Saturday the 8th ...
