GoPro Kit “with the Intention of Making YouTube Videos”

I had a great plan to use a GoPro to make videos for YouTube of myself driving my Lotus Elise. Alas, my first experience trying to do this was a bit of a disaster: the suction cup fell off from where I’d mounted it, the bit of video before the suction cup losing suck was interesting but sound wasn’t great, and I realised that I’d taken a lot of footage and didn’t have a clue how to edit it.

I need to learn where best to mount a GoPro, and how to edit videos. Producing quality YouTube videos definitely isn’t easy.

If you’ve got an iPhone 6 (or similar), that works perfectly fine for filming outside the car. My GoPro plan is currently parked until I get time to educate myself...

Below is the kit I purchased. I think this is an okay starter kit. Hero 5 Session (comes with some adhesive mounts), Suction cup, Head Strap + Quickclip, 2 * 128GB MicroSDXC card, 64GB MicroSDXC card, and an Anker Powercore.

Bonus: How Much Video Footage from a Hero 5 Session and 128GB Card?

When I was purchasing the SD cards, I wasn’t sure how much video I could get on one 64GB card (so I got 2 x 128GB cards more after first just purchasing the 64GB card.) If you’re curious too, below is a table I made of settings for how much video footage an 128GB SD card can hold (for the Hero 5 Session camera at least.)

Note: Field of View = “Wide” for all the below

Resolution | FPS | Duration
-----------+-----+---------
           |     |
4K         | 30  | 4H:17
4K         | 24  | 5H:38
           |     |
2.7K       | 48  | 4H:17
2.7K       | 30  | 5H:38
2.7K       | 24  | 5H:38
           |     |
2.7K 4:3   | 30  | 5H:38
           |     |
1440       | 60  | 5H:38
1440       | 48  | 8H:12
1440       | 30  | 8H:12
1440       | 24  | 8H:12
           |     |
1080       | 90  | 4H:17
1080       | 60  | 8H:12
1080       | 48  | 8H:12
1080       | 30  | 8H:12
1080       | 24  | 8H:12
           |     |
960        | 100 | 8H:12
960        | 60  | 8H:12
960        | 30  | 8H:12
           |     |
720        | 120 | 8H:12
720        | 60  | 8H:12
720        | 30  | 8H:12

It’s interesting how you can’t get better than 8 hours 12 minutes. I think 1080 and 60 FPS is perfect.
